Cone Communications Director Named New Barnabas Board Chair
(Greensboro, N.C., Feb.27, 2024) –
The Barnabas Network has appointed Debra A. (Debi) Miller, APR Fellow PRSA, Cone Health's Director of Communications, as its new board chair. With extensive experience in executive leadership across various sectors including health care, financial services, professional services and government, Miller is renowned for her strategic communication expertise. Additionally, she is an accomplished academic scholar and administrator at multiple universities. Dr. Miller holds degrees from Hampton University (B.A.), the Ohio State University (M.A.), and Florida International University (Ed.D.). Active in her community, Debi is a member of the Greensboro Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Leadership Greensboro, and serves on the board of the HealthShares Credit Union.
“From day one Debi Miller has played an active and engaged role on our board of directors and we are thrilled to have her take on this leadership role,” says Barnabas Executive Director Derrick Sides. “We’re fortunate to have her guidance and advocacy as we expand into High Point and raise awareness about the importance of furniture banks in the fight against poverty.”
The Barnabas Network is the area’s only nonprofit furniture bank. Founded in 2006, the organization is headquartered at 838 Winston Street, Greensboro, NC, 27405 and gives free home furnishings to individuals and families transitioning from homelessness, fleeing domestic violence, overcoming major setbacks, and living on incomes that do not cover basic needs. In an average year, Barnabas gives out more than 10,000 pieces of furniture, including more than 1,200 beds. Half of those beds go to school-age children.
