Barnabas Stories - Don Frye
Like many who work with The Barnabas Network, Don Frye came to the organization through a friend. “I volunteered and started helping out repairing furniture,” Frye says, “going on outdoor pickups and deliveries.”
Also like others who have found help through The Barnabas Network, Frye was able to successfully transition from the stigma of incarceration to the independence of skilled tradesman.
“Then they set up my resume so that I could go out and find a job,” Frye says of his friends at The Barnabas Network. “They helped me on job interviews.”
Part of the Jobs Training Ministry at The Barnabas Network involves networking with local businesses and agencies to develop the skills and talents employers need and employees can provide. Frye’s talent is reupholstering, a skill set that is particularly helpful in mending donated furniture. Working with an instructor, Frye is honing his craft and working toward growing his own business.
“[The Barnabas Network] helped me get my materials, my machines and I’ve got my business cards,” Frye reports. “It’s a slow process, but it’s gradually growing. I’ve got some customers that I’ve already done some good work for and I have a couple of things I’m working on now.”
