How our Furniture Ministry works

In these tough economic times, more and more families are finding it harder to provide the basic necessities of life. Many struggling in low-income jobs are not able to buy a bed or a mattress and will sometimes get trapped by furniture agreements that keep ownership just beyond reach. Families transitioning from homelessness, abuse, and prison need special help in their efforts to become self reliant.

The Barnabas Furniture Ministry is a collaborative effort of diverse faith communities, ministries, and social agencies that provides furniture at no cost to qualified and needy individuals and families.

In order to help the needy, we rely on furniture donations of new and gently used furniture from individuals, companies, and other organizations. We will make an appointment with you, send our trucks to pick up furniture from your home or other location, and bring the furniture to our warehouse until a new home is found. Our upholstery service will repair, restore and renew and bring new life to a chair, table or sofa. And you can be sure that the eventual recipient of your donation will be deeply grateful for what they have received.

One of our greatest needs is for beds and mattresses, as there are thousands of children in this community who sleep on the floor at night—not by choice but because there is simply no bed available. We are deeply grateful for the support of SEALY Mattresses and other organizations who generously donate every year to make this program the success that it is.

Agencies and churches refer families in need of furniture. A $25 referral fee is paid by the referring agency to help cover overhead. We then schedule appointments with our clients to pick out the furniture they need. The amount of furniture each family receives is eligible to receive depends on family size, situation, and inventory.

I got a referral to the Barnabas Network. It was really nice when I went there. I enjoyed meeting everybody. It was a very big blessing for me and my children who are seven and five years of age. I got them two beds and dressers. I really appreciate it.
